Network Marketing Myths

Ever wonder about the myths of network marketing? Let's explore some of the most famous myths.

The product sells itself or practically sells itself. I have heard this one hundreds of times. My comeback is always "Then why does the company need you, and why do you want me to sign up as a distributor and spend my time selling the product?" If the product sold itself, the network marketing company would not need other distributors. The company would sell the product to users without the need of marketing and advertising. Now how practical is this?
If a network marketer tells you the product sells itself, tell him or her thank you and hang up. Why? Because network marketing is a hard business to succeed in. Just ask the 98.5% of those that fail. It takes dedication, time, hard and smart work, and most of all, one must have the ability to generate targeted leads.

Another network marketing myth is "Each no gets you closer to a yes". What does this actually mean...I cannot figure it out. My best guess if that after you have been told no by 99 people, then the 100th person will say yes. And what do you do if the 100th person says no? Do you say to them "But you can't say no...your the 100th person"?

I have known several network marketers that were unable to recruit even one person. Ask them if each no got them closer to a yes.

Yet another myth is "Network marketing is about making money, and the product is irrelevant". If individuals do not buy the product and consume it, then there is no money. Customers and distributors must believe in the product, and the product must work for its intended purpose. This is no different than purchasing a product at Wal-Mart. If the products at Wal-Mart do not work for their intended purpose, people will not buy them. Your product is no different. If you do not believe in the product, then find one that you can believe in.

Why are these myths utilized by network marketers? First of all, only desperate network marketers recruit using these methods. Unfortunately, 98.5% of network marketers are desperate. Why are they desperate? Because they cannot tell you how to actually grow your business. They do not understand such concepts and marketing techniques as pay per click, article marketing, forum marketing, blogging, etc. They were taught by their upline that Network marketing is a warm market business. This leads to the next myth.

The next myth is that Network Marketing is a warm market business. Network marketers are taught to call their friends, family, and colleagues and sign them up. Also, they are told to bother others in parking lots and grocery stores. How logical is this? Do you think Wal-Mart grew their business by having Sam Walton call his friends and family and ask them to come to the store and buy products? No! Wal-Mart markets and advertises their business using tv, radio, magazines, and the internet.

So, don't fall for the myths when someone is trying to recruit you. If they are using these myths, then they obviously do not understand how to help you grow your business.

If You Don't Speak Up About Your Network Marketing Business, Nobody Knows You Are Out There

No one can join your mlm business unless they know you exist. This is why advertising is more than just important. It is critical to your success and survival.

Walmart is the biggest company in the world. Everyone knows about Walmart. Walmart continues to advertise on tv, radio, newspapers, internet, etc. Why? Because they have to. They have competition. They have to continually keep their name in the face of all people.

Other large companies like Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Burger King, Budweiser, and many others continue to use many different media for their advertising.

So, what does this tell you? You have an unbelievable amount of competition out there for your mlm business. Therefore, you need to advertise. You are no different than the companies I mentioned. People who want to join an mlm business do not know you are out there unless you put yourself out there.

Having an advertising and marketing budget and a means to advertise is a must for your network marketing business. Some of the successful methods of advertising are:

internet

magazines

postcards

newsletters

However, just choosing to advertise and deciding which media to use does not automatically lead to success. What you say is just as important. Is your message clear and concise? Is it persuasive? Has it been sent to targeted individuals? Will your audience feel like they are missing out on something if they don't join? These are questions you will need to ask yourself as you put your advertising campaign together.

Just having a website does not mean that people will visit it. Websites need ranking to become visible by the search engines. People need to know about your website and your business if you want it to grow.

Patience in Network Marketing Is More Than Just Realizing It Takes Time To Grow a Business

For his entire career, my brother has been in the Advertising and Marketing Business. He has worked for some extremely large Advertising Agencies in New York City, and he has worked with clients that spend $50 million per year in advertising and marketing.

After 22 years, he quit his crappy corporate job and ventured out to start an agency partnership with a friend of his. He struggled for many years. Business increased little by little over a span of three years. And after three years, he was able to replace his income from his corporate job.

Network marketers, especially beginners, need to learn a lesson from this. My brother had 22 years experience in his business, yet it still took him three years to get to where he replaced his income. Network marketers need to be patient regarding growing your downline. My brother already had the skills necessary to succeed in his business.

I want to ask, what makes you think you can grown your business any faster? Have you developed the proper tools such as:

An Entrepreneurship attitude

A Marketing and Advertising Plan

Learning not to be pushy towards prospects

Proper recruiting techniques

Leadership training

These tools are not only important in growing your business, they are vital. Let me explain more detail about each.

Your mlm business is your business, and not any else's. It is not your uplines, not your mlm company's, etc. It is yours and only yours, and as long as you adhere to the terms and conditions set forth by your company, it shall remain your business. This means that you must adopt an Entrepreneurship attitude. Network marketing is about creating leveraged income. However, from the early stages, you are alone in your organization. It takes your time and efforts alone to grown your business. The term for this has been referred to as Reverse Leverage. And after you get some signups, you must spend time training them. Leveraged income only comes after your business has reached a certain level.

You need to establish an advertising and marketing plan along with a monthly budget. Walmart is the largest company in the world, but they still advertise on tv, radio and other media. What makes network marketers think they can succeed without advertising? Advertising is vital especially on the internet due to the billion people online.

From the beginning, you are anxious to get others signed up in your business. However, don't be a pushy salesman. Give your prospects the information needed to make an informed decision. Give them a CD, magazine, websites, and other information. Explain the compensation plan. Don't make promises regarding money. If someone does not want to join your business, then move on. A good rule of them to use is spend 95 percent of your time recruiting and 5 percent follow up. This will weed out the individuals not interested and close the gap on the ones that are.

Learning proper recruiting techniques starts with the phone call. Practice what you want to say on the phone, don't sell, don't convince. Just give information and follow up. Proper recruiting techniques also includes learning which paraphernalia works the best. Is it cd's, websites, magazines, product samples, etc. You will probably use all of them and more. However, remember to track the results.

Leadership is the most important tool needed to be a successful network marketer. A leader trains his/her downline the proper way to grow a business, and steers the downline away from the recruiting efforts that are unsuccessful. A leader makes sure that every action he/she does is duplicable, and same for his/her downline. Don't let your downline spend time developing a new website when one already exists. And most important, a leader is very patient with his/her downline. Sometimes we must train our downline several times on one aspect until they understand it enough to pass it on.

Setting Goals for Your MLM Achievements Is More Than Just Writing Them Down on Paper

You might write your MLM goals down. However, does this act alone mean you will achieve them?

It is extremely important to set goals in all aspects of your life. For example, one of the goals I set was to teach my son to read before he started kindergarten. Another one was to have my house paid off before he started kindergarten. Another goal is to become financially independent via network marketing, and help my downline do the same.

As for network marketing, write your goals down. Short term, mid range, and long term. Make sure they are challenging, but attainable. Then, after you do this, make a list of the actions you will take to achieve these goals. You will need training. You will need an advertising budget, and a medium for your advertising. You will need to study, know, and use your network marketing company's products. You will need paraphernalia to give out to prospects whether it be cd's, magazines, websites, product samples, etc. You will need to know in detail about your network marketing company's compensation plan.

Knowing which actions to take are just as important as having goals. These actions are also to be passed down to each and every member of your downline as they set goals. Your downline must understand the concept that the actions are as important as the goals themselves.

Your goals should be conceivable, clearly defined, attainable, and flexible. Just writing your goals down on paper will not itself lead to successfully achieving them. You must learn and develop the skills and tools which will lead you to success.

The Importance of Tracking Advertising and Marketing in Your MLM Business

When it comes to marketing your mlm business, is more better, and does it matter the method or is the answer just get it out there regardless.

It was once said "I know that 50% of my advertising works and 50% does not, I just don't know which 50%". This is so key to advertising and marketing your network marketing business. Tracking your results for every type of advertising/marketing that you do is so important to the growth of your business. Why? Because you will know what works and what doesn't work. And not just for yourself, but for your entire downline as well. The process is not very complicated, especially when it comes to internet tracking. Here are some simple steps to take:

1. Sign up for a landing page and website for your mlm. You must have one of these to have any success with internet marketing. This landing page will need to allow individuals to enter their name, email address, and phone number. Then, the auto-responder will follow up with emails. Do not spend the time developing your own website. This is not a duplicable action. Make sure your network marketing landing page has the ability to create "Campaign Tracking". If not, ask them to incorporate it.

2.Within your backoffice of your mlm website, create the campaign. This in turn creates a new link. For example, if your landing page for your mlm is billbobsmlmlandingpage.com, then a tracking link will be created that looks like billbobsmlmlandingpage.com/t1. This is the link you use to track one of your advertising methods.

3.Then create a different link for each advertising method you use. Track the results over a few months period of time, and you will know which advertising and marketing efforts work and which ones do not. In the long run, this will save you a lot of money, time and effort. It will also save your dowline money, time, and effort, and shorten the learning curve, and increase recruiting.

4.Share this information with your entire downline. In fact, this is actually an excellent way to recruit. Imagine telling prospects that they can join another mlm company, but if they join yours, you will teach them about tracking for advertising and also teach them which advertising and marketing strategies work best which will save them money immediately and they can focus solely on recruiting.

Why Are There So Many Anti-MLM People Out There?

Granted, the mlm business is not perfect, but the business concepts are without a doubt the best.

No business is perfect. In Big Corporate environments, helping others succeed does not occur. What occurs are people trying to secure their own position, and they feel threatened by others below them in the organization that are aggressive, do well, and want to move up. It is commonplace for people to be promoted based upon levels of incompetence.

I have spent many years in a Big Corporate environment whereby we sold products to large retailers, which shall remain nameless. Each year, these huge retailers make more money than the year before, and demand from their suppliers lower prices, better and more service, and longer payment terms. We had lost huge chunks of our market share because a competitor lowered prices by a few percentages. We were stuck with huge inventories and no one else to sell the products to. People were laid off, and those that stayed were given more responsibilities for the same pay.

These tactics by the large retailers are forcing companies to sell their products through different distribution channels such as multi-level marketing. Under the Networking Marketing channels, distributors pay all the costs of advertisement. Under Big Corporate, the large retailers and suppliers pay for the advertising, and as a result, 60 percent of product costs are advertising. And, under normal Big Corporate channels, their are numerous levels of markup. There are substantially less number of levels of markup in network marketing channels, which keep prices affordable.

There are many other alternatives people choose from Big Corporate in order to make a living. Many open up franchises, and other type of businesses. However, most of these take a large investment, and result in borrowing a large sum of money for no guarantee. And many of them take years to turn a profit due to the large investment.

The Network Marketing business does have its flaws. 75 percent of network marketers quit within three to four months and 97.5 percent of network marketers quit within one year. This is completely due to lack of training. Old methods like contacting friends and family are still used as a mainstream method of training downlines. Network marketers must realize that it takes very little investment to be a distributor. You get no customers, and no training. It takes time to grow a customer base. You must look for long term payback and not immediate.

Building a network marketing business is not easy, and certainly not fast. Every day, more and more people want to take control of their destiny. It is estimated that 11,000 home based business are started each day. Individuals are tired of being told how many days off they are allowed to take, and when and where they need to be on a daily basis.

So what is wrong with selling products direct? Nothing. In network marketing, we are just selling products directly to whoever wants to buy them. They can be a customer or another distributor...it does not matter. For many of us that sell natural health products, we are delighted to get our products in the hands of people that need them. For many of us that also sell technology products, we are happy to get them in the hands of people that love using them. It is good business to diversify, even in network marketing especially when the products complement each other. If they want to make a business out of it, that's excellent. Then I will train them to properly grow their business.

So, before you go ahead and downgrade network marketing, realize that individuals are tired of working for corporations for 25 years, and being laid off at 50 and having nowhere to go. And manufacturers are tired of having to reduce prices each year to retailers and increase service levels. Network marketing is not perfect, but it is much better than the alternatives.

A Few Secrets To A Profitable MLM Business

Simple is Better...especially when it comes to growing your network marketing organization and training your downline.

Here are a few simple secrets to growing your business:

Time is important. You must leverage your time by concentrating on the tasks that create action, and stop doing the tasks that just use up time. Most network marketers start out part time while spreading their time between their job, family, and other responsibilities. That is why it is critical to spend time doing positive successful actions to grow your mlm.

Individuals get involved in network marketing for many different reasons. However, we all recognize that we will get more out of our business by working 10 hours per week, and having our 100 downline members also work 10 hours per week. The result is 1010 hours worked. We cannot do this alone. So leverage your time, and teach your downline the same.

Do not re-invent the wheel. You cannot actually come up with a system that has not yet been tried before. Study what works for other network marketers in their mlm, and study what does not work. Sign up for a landing page site that already exists and use it instead of developing your own. This will speed up the recruiting process for you and your mlm downline.

Find a way to generate both free leads and inexpensive leads. Generating leads seems to be the biggest expense in most mlm businesses. Never, ever, ever buy leads from a lead source. There are several ways to generate targeted leads for free using certain internet marketing strategies. Research them and use them and teach your downline. 97.5 percent of network marketers end up quitting because they cannot generate enough leads to make money.

Find a personal coach that can guide you to recognizing successful and unsuccessful actions. Think about all of the great athletes in the world. They all have coaches. Your personal coach should be able to teach you and your downline the tools in your mlm toolbox you need to develop for marketing your business over the internet.

Set goals. Short term ones and long term ones. But always remember that success comes in network marketing over time, not overnight. Don't set such high expectation short term goals, and get depressed and frustrated when you do not achieve them. Set reasonably attainable goals and work towards them, and always keep in mind and remember the phrase "Where do I want to be in 12 months".
